I am sickened to read of the treatment Adrian has received from other pupils at his school. Having met him myself a couple of years ago I know he is a young man with a lot of spirit and creativity. I remember having a good laugh with him during our Thanksgiving meal and on the couple of trips we took as a group.

Having German cousins myself and several other German friends I have sadly been witness to the same form of racism he has had to endure. I have no idea why the German people are subjected to such disgusting and ignorant abuse for a history that predates them.

The physical abuse that Adrian has undergone is horrific; it it shocking what one child can do to another. Like most people my own school life had it's share of hard knocks but I don't recall even the most malicious of bullies in the schools I attended ever abusing another child to this degree.

One has to wonder how these abusers would cope themselves with the move across the world and the adjustment to a different way of life, language and culture. They no doubt have no idea of the privilege they enjoy in living in such a diverse and accepting country, it is but a testament to their ignorance of the wider world that they can't learn to appreciate it.
