This has unearthed some memories for me. I usually assumed a passive
resistance stance to bullying until one time when I was 11 some other
kid was so mad because I wouldn't fight him that he threw a wooden chair
at my head while I had my back turned. I guess it was not my day to go
because, even turned, and for some reason I ducked and it flew by the
place my head would be. I had to switch schools after that.
Sorry for venting on you (as you clearly have your hands full) but I
don't get to talk about this much.

When I was a little kid I went to school with a bully
and man, you were always glad that there was some poor kid further down
the line than you, because you got away while that other kid got the
third degree. The school and the parents did nothing, and we did
nothing because we were just a bunch of scared little kids. Finally one
victim's older brother got wind of things and came down and popped that
bully right in the face a few times, and that was the end of the bullying.
Of course these days if you tried that solution they'd haul everyone off to jail.
